Domains, in plain English.
A domain is your address on the internet, like yourname.com. It's what people type in, and what you put on your business card. Here's how it works with us, in one short read.
The short version: you own your domain and pay for it yourself, usually about $12 a year. We set it up and connect it to your site for free, then hand you the keys.
Why you should own it
Your domain is part of your name. If someone else registers it for you, they technically control it. When it's in your name, it's yours, no matter what. If you ever switch designers or move your site, your address comes with you.
What it costs
Prices vary a little by name and ending (.com, .co, .studio and so on). You pay the registrar directly, so it never goes through us.
How setup works
- Pick a name. We'll help you check what's available.
- Buy it in your name at a registrar like Namecheap, Porkbun, or Cloudflare. It takes about five minutes.
- We connect it, before handoff. We do it together on a quick call, or walk you through it step by step. You never have to share your password.
- That's it. Your site shows up at your address, with a secure https:// connection.
Already have a domain?
Perfect. We'll connect the one you have, also for free.
Good to know
- Turn on auto-renew at your registrar so your domain never lapses.
- Your site is hosted on a free hosting account in your own name.
- At handoff you get the keys: your domain, your hosting account and all the site files. We keep no logins or access.
- After handoff, ongoing changes and upkeep are in your hands. Want an update later? Come back and we'll build you an updated site as a new order.
